Film screening and discussion: Fight against femicides in Kenya

Join us for an impactful evening dedicated to the fight for LGBTIQA+ rights and the urgent struggle against gender-based violence and femicide in Kenya.

Rafiki
During this evening we will screen the movie Rafiki, a vibrant and critically acclaimed Kenyan film directed by Wanuri Kahiu. This film was banned in Kenya upon release. It tells the story of Kena and Ziki, two young women from opposing political families who fall in love in a society where same-sex relationships are criminalised. With stunning visuals and a heartfelt narrative, the film challenges stigma and celebrates queer love, defiance, and resilience.

Discussion
Following the screening, we are honored to welcome a Kenyan human rights defender who works at the intersection of gender justice and LGBTIQA+ rights. She will share her firsthand experiences from the front lines—supporting survivors, challenging discrimination, and advocating for inclusive change.
